ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE
A stronger, fairer economy goes hand-in-hand with tackling climate change.
A different future for Texas is possible.
Rather than depend on the dying oil and gas industry, we can invest in renewable energy and good-paying jobs.
Instead of polluting our communities and destroying our natural resources, we can work towards healthier air, cleaner water, and safer homes.
Instead of careening towards disaster, we can lead the country in transitioning to a clean and just economy that centers workers and low-income communities of color.
A stronger, fairer economy goes hand-in-hand with tackling climate change.
Fact: Texas leads the nation in
Oil and gas pollution
Transport sector emissions, and
Industrial emissions.
Also a Fact: The climate crisis is real and our opportunity lead is NOW.
Texans don’t run away from big problems. We tackle them head-on. Especially a problem as big as climate change.
No state can produce more wind or solar energy than Texas.
These are the fastest-growing jobs in America, and they pay well.
No state has more:
Smart business leaders
Research and technology expertise
Harder workers
So c’mon Texas. Take the lead.
Together, we can make sure that Texas becomes a model for others who are organizing against tough odds.
Everyone deserves clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and a healthy environment to live in. Unfortunately, Texans are negatively impacted by pollution and climate change every single day -- and these impacts are not distributed evenly.
The data is clear: the most vulnerable communities are also the most likely to be exposed to polluted air and water. Across the state, pollution hotspots are concentrated around the places that low-income and minority populations call home.
This map allows you to explore the uneven social and environmental burdens faced by every county in Texas. Click on a county to see its “cumulative risk score” (based on local pollution, demographic data, and health indicators). And use the “Share your Story” feature to add your personal experience to the map.
